In a thrilling moment for Uganda’s creative industry, three talented Ugandan producers—Nalunga Lukodda, Samuel Kizito, and Amisha Mukasa—have been selected to represent the country at the 5th Edition of the DFMI Business Lab. This is more than recognition—it’s a launchpad for bold ideas, professional growth, and global storytelling.

What Is the DFMI Business Lab?

Hosted by the Durban FilmMart Institute, the DFMI Business Lab is an intensive 18-week online programme designed to upskill emerging African film producers in vital areas like business management, co-production, distribution, financial planning, fundraising, IP law, and marketing.

In partnership with DW Akademie and backed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, this programme covers:

  • Business strategy fundamentals

  • Equitable and creative co-production models

  • Distribution and PR tactics

  • Financial acumen and fundraising strategies

Running from August to January, participants meet twice weekly via Zoom – all with sessions available in English, French, and Portuguese, complete with simultaneous translation.

To date, the DFMI Business Lab has empowered 125 producers across Africa, enabling them to build sustainable careers in the global film industry.
