Film Distribution in Focus: Uganda Film Producers Guild Hosts Strategic Meeting.
In a bold and strategic move toward strengthening the local film industry, members of the Producers Guild of Uganda (PGU) convened this past week for a crucial meeting focused on one of the sector’s most pressing challenges: film distribution.
Held at the headquarters of Reach A Hand Uganda, the meeting brought together a vibrant collective of producers, all sharing a common goal to streamline distribution, expand market access, and ensure Ugandan stories reach broader and more sustainable audiences.
The meeting provided a platform for producers to share experiences, identify distribution bottlenecks, and explore collaborative solutions. Key topics discussed included the need for a national distribution policy, collaborations with cinema chains and digital platforms, and capacity building for marketing and sales.
“Distribution remains a weak link in our value chain, and this meeting is a step forward in ensuring our films get the visibility they deserve both locally and globally,” said a PGU President.
The Producers Guild of Uganda, known for its commitment to professionalism and industry development, reiterated its dedication to building a structured and inclusive ecosystem for filmmakers. The producers in attendance expressed a strong willingness to pool resources, share knowledge, and support new initiatives aimed at elevating the standards of film production and distribution in Uganda.
Cinema UG commends all the producers who showed up, spoke up, and continue to stand firm in this journey of transformation. As PGU continues to advocate for systemic growth, one thing is clear: the future of Ugandan cinema lies in collective strength and a unified vision.
