“Maria” is a plot driven fiction story, a genre film written to reflect the issue of mental health and how society and its rules truly affects and defines our very existence. It addresses one young woman’s story, Maria, who suffers through physical, mental and emotional trauma from childhood with no support system and no coping mechanisms. Her innocence and belief in the goodness of humanity are slowly stripped away as she struggles to cope with situations beyond her choosing and control and as her story unfolds, we see generations of women that have experienced years of trauma; most coping by transferring their anger, frustrations and unhappiness onto everyone around them. This film is about the human capacity for endurance, coping with loss and betrayal, revenge and ultimately freedom.
